Film: Kaththi
Starring: Vijay, Samantha, Neil Nithin Mukesh, Sathish
Director: AR Murugadoss
Producer: Lyca Productions
Banner: Lyca Productions
Music: Anirudh Ravichandran

Story:
Kaththi stars Vijay in dual roles, as soft hearted leader Jeevanantham aka Jeeva and thief Kathiresan aka Kaththi. Story begins when Jeeva is dealing with the problems of farmers in his village being a graduate in Hydrology. On the flip side Cedric Peter Von [Neil Nitin Mukesh], a business man who buys farmer lands and plans to sell them.
Film trolls in an expected way with clash between Jeeva and Cedric. Meanwhile, Kaththi escapes from Kolkatta jail and plans to fly to Bangkock with the help of his friend Ravi. But happens to save his soul mate Jeeva and accept his position to solve farmers burning issue. Romantic side of Kaththi is shown in the interim with Ankita [Samantha]. How Kaththi saves Jeeva? Will he be able to solve villagers problems? Forms the crux of Kaththi...
Performances:
Vijay has effortlessly carried all the angels, be it be Jeeva or Kaththi. His dance moves, fights and dialogue delivery, just takes the movie a step higher.
Neil Nitin Mukesh takes the center stage after Thalapathy. He looks charming and has given a promising performance along with neat dialogue delivery and perfect dubbing in Tamil. There couldn't be a best debut for him than Kaththi.
Samantha has been given enough scope, as per story line. She has done justice to the role in her comfort zone. Sam looks gorgeous, it could have been much better if she matches Ilayathalapathy's energy, especially while dancing.
Sathish and the age-old grandfathers' had their contribution in the movie.
Technical Analysis:
AR Mmurugadoss is one such smart story teller who can read viewers mind. Coming to Kaththi, it has strong social message that is aptly delivered with Vijay's face. Only lagging part in the film is the first 40 mins, which needs a few trims. Else Editor Sreekar Prasad has done a great job.
Kaththi is a new addition in Anirudh Ravichander's sequential hit list. Background score of the movie is as interesting as his soundtrack.
George C Williams visuals are treat. Intro jail scene and interview scene are well shot. Songs and fights are captured with grand visuals. Effective team work could be seen in the 'Coin flip' fight sequence. Stunts are one more asset for the movie.
Analysis:
Vijay-AR Murugadoss's Kaththi will be much appealing as a story oriented movie than a sleek action thriller. Though the movie has enough portions of romance and comedy, they are just sidelined. So as the songs played speed breakers.
Samantha has nothing to do with the main script. She is been just a glamdoll for the rest. Neil Nitin Mukesh is one more actor from North [Bollywood] who proved his mettle in Kollywood, to be here just like Vidyut Jamwal.
Pre-climax Vijay's speech is something similar to Vikram’s speech in Anniyan and Vijayakanth’s speech in Ramana.
Final Verdict: Sharp Kaththi with few Blunt Edges...
Film: Yaan
Starring: Jeeva,Thulasi Nair
Director: Ravi K Chandran
Producer: Elred Kumar, R JayaRaman
Banner: RS Infotainment
Music: Harris Jayaraj

Story:
Yaan begins with a descent action block between police and mafia, where Chandru [Jeeva] is introduced as one of the cops and an impressive entry by Srila [Thulasi Nair]. Though their relationship starts with eerie, slowly they develop liking for each other ending in a made-for-each-other couple. Circumstances force Chandru to leave to Balikistan, where he gets caught for carrying drugs, which he doesn't commit. Chandru is sentenced to be beheaded by the court of Law. Will Chandru manages to return back to his mother land proving his innocence? Forms the crux of Yaan…
Performances:
Jeeva looks charming and carries the film on his shoulders, be it action, humour, expressions or the liveliness. Brimming with energy, Jeeva manages to look carefree chocolate boy in the first half and a macho man in the counter part. Jeeva proves he is a perfect choice for Chandru role. He keeps the film going whenever he is on screen.
Thulasi Nair fits the bill and did her parts with a handful of expressions. She is adequate.
Nawab Shah as villain is purely wasted. JP and Nassar could have given more space. Thambi Ramaiah and Karunakaran stand out with the cameo performances.
Technical Analysis:
Ravi K Chandran failed to prove his mettle as a filmmaker. The ace cinematographer, who has delivered scenic frames in award winning films, couldn't wield the megaphone as perfectly as expected. Even after having an engaging script like Yaan, Ravi’s attempt remained unproductive.
Manushnandan take a bow for such an impeccable capturing in the first shot. Lead pair introduction in the midst of an action sequence is grandiose.
Harris Jayaraj had rendered peppy scores for the romantic scenes and the background music is pulsating in the chase sequences. Yaan is Harris’s recent best album, but songs served as speed breakers in the movie.
Art direction equally stands out. Sreekar Prasad's editing is stunning in all the chase sequences, yet trimming is expected from the rest.
Elred Kumar of RS Infotainment has come up with one more visual extravaganza that is eye pleasing leaving best experiences with yawning screenplay.
Analysis:
Jeeva’s Yaan begins at a promising note and is carried out with best performances and technical aspects [Visuals, camera, music, art], yet viewers feel bored for its slow narration and unwanted commercial aspects, which are otherwise an assets.
Jeeva, Thulasi Nair, Manunandan, Harris Jayaraj and Sreekar Prasad have done astounding job for Yaan. All of them beautifully complemented each other’s work helping in pushing movie a level higher.
Final Verdict: An attractive film. Worth watching for picturesque visuals…
Film: Madras
Starring: Karthi, Catherine Tresa,
Director: Pa. Ranjith
Producer: KE Gnanavelraja
Banner: Studio Green Productions
Music: Santhosh Narayanan

Story:
Madras revolves around the people of North Madras with a wall as the center stage. Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam is a political party that splits in to two and the divided circles keeps witnessing never ending turf war for the ownership of the wall. Watch Madras on big screens to see how Pa. Ranjith included Kaali [Karthi], Kalaiarasi [Catherine Tresa], Anbu, Maari, Kannan, Johnny, Mary, the Blue Boys and and their parents giving equal importance in the movie.
Performances:
Karthi is back into action and has delivered his best after Paruthiveeran. Being a big star he had darely opted for such a script that debutantes would go for and performed the role of Kaali with utmost confidence. Karthi proves he is a versatile performer, his intensity, punches and slaps appeared real on screen.
Catherine Tresa has given a promising debut. She has given an authentic performance with apt lip-sync. Dubbing is okay. Though she is new to industry grabs all the attention whenever on screen and emotes well.
Kalaiarasan as Anbu, steals the show and this will last as one of his best performances for lifetime. Director should be lauded for choosing him for the role.
Technical Analysis:
Madras is totally a Pa. Ranjith show. The one-film-old director has done a great job. He has break all the conventions and portrayed a stylistic boldness on screen unlike loud-mouthed ranters and poverty-stricken from North-Madras, which appears highly refreshing.
Madras is technically sound with phenomenal scores by Santosh Narayanan. The musician has scored one more bumper hit for his compositions in 2014 after Jigarthanda. Songs gell with the narration and Ranjith has left a reason for group dances.
G Murali's cinematography is an asset for Madras. He has painstakingly shot the regional locations of North-Madras that makes you involve more into the story and go along with the screenplay. Especially, the fights and chase sequences will make you feel awe.
Credit to the stunt choreographers too. Madras is definitely high on action. Dubbing artist and actors need a special mention for using perfect North-Madras lingo.
Praveen KL's precise cuts makes Madras more interesting and engaging.
Analysis:
Though Madras falls into the reign of regular faction rival politics. Pa. Ranjith has given it a new treatment by concentrating on educated and civilized youngsters along with their families including friendship and love as prime tools.
One the whole, Madras is a realistic commercial entertainer with true colours of a lower-middle class community.
Final Verdict: Worth watching in big screens...
Film: Jeeva
Starring: Vishnu Vishal, Sri Divya
Director: Suseenthiran
Producer: Arya
Banner: TNBF, TSP
Music: D. Imman

A young boy, who is a passionate cricketer, frequents a sports shop in his neighbourhood so many times that he knows the price of every bat stacked up on the shelf. And when he finally buys a cricket bat from the same store, the courteous owner offers him a discount because he's been his loyal customer.
In another scene, the same boy gets punished by his teacher for playing cricket in classroom, and in retaliation he pulls a prank on him with his friends. They get expelled for their stunt and as they're made to stand outside, he still thinks about playing cricket.
These memorable scenes in the first half of Suseenthiran's "Jeeva" introduce us to the story of Jeeva, an aspiring cricketer and the environment he's growing up in. He's surrounded by a father who is still grieving his wife's death and hence, is drunk mostly, neighbours who look after him as though he's their own and a society that switches off television sets the moment Sachin Tendulkar (cricket maestro) is dismissed in a match.
As promoted by the makers, "Jeeva" is the story of a cricketer and not just about the sport. There's more action and melodrama off the field than on it. Suseenthiran takes a dig at the selection committee of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association that has only been favouring players from a certain community. It's about a sport versus politics story told from the perspective of the minority.
A lot of pertinent questions are raised in the film, which never attempts to be controversial despite addressing a very sensitive issue. Without naming any players, "Jeeva" reminds us that 80 percent of Tamil Nadu players who've played for the country belong to a certain community. And the stats are astonishingly true. While pointing fingers at the community, Suseenthiran very intelligently brings the talent angle to keep the tone of comparison very neutral.
"Jeeva" is gripping with a moving second half, but not as inspiring as Nagesh Kukunoor's Bollywood film "Iqbal". The problem being it focuses on a romantic track that completely acts as a spoilsport. Suseenthiran's desperate act to portray his film as a commercial entertainer and not as a sports-drama doesn't go down too well. It somehow distracts you from the film's core subject and that's a big letdown. If only these crucial comprises were handled with care, the film would've been highly satisfying.
Vishnu, who has played Ranji level cricket before becoming an actor, fits into the titular effortlessly. He shines as a cricketer, but not as much as a lover boy in the first half. The cricket sequences are very realistically executed, but for a few shots involving graphics. Suseenthiran uses the friendship angle in the story quite well and although it reaches a predictable end, it still touches your heart.
The director has a knack for turning his stories around in the post-interval session, and he does it here too extremely well. He opens the film with a scene that features Vishnu narrating his story as a cricketer, which at that point seemed very cliched, but by the time the film reaches its climax you're pleasantly surprised. His subtle twists at some crucial junctures of the film are a treat to watch.
"Jeeva" is a tribute to all the passionate cricket players who have failed without ever getting an opportunity to prove their mettle. It's the story of passion versus politics.

Cricket is as intense as a religion in our country. And like there are miscreants to defame any faith and make money out of it, this sport has been made into a well paying profession in the form of gambling. Betting on matches and involving bookies, cheaters of players and lots of money is an ancillary match that runs along side every big series. Based on one such event of gambling is what 'Aadama Jaichomada' is about.
Plan and Picture:
Dayalan (Balaji) is a broker who lobbies between players and betters. As the semi finals approaches in Chennai, Daya gets on to work, putting one person across to another, to channellise betting money. One of the latest tactics employed by bookies is to hire a taxi and be on the move, making it hard to be traced, while transacting. And that is how Panneer (Karunakaran) comes into the picture. Panneer, the taxi driver, is hired by Dayalan, and the two drive all around the city, two days prior to the match, meeting important personnel regarding the game. In their journey Daya learns from Panneer that he is in immense debt which has kept him separated from his wife Rama (Vijayalakshmi), and Daya offers to help Panneer settle his bills. The next day, Daya is found murdered in his room and the blame is on Panneer. Innocent, yet caught in the mysterious web, Panneer is confused and scared, which is when he is abducted from inspector Bhoominathan (Bobby Simha) by police force from another state! Confusion gets bigger, a lot of people are involved and all they have is a clueless day left for the big match day which means money. How all the characters are linked, how they get their share in betting despite having no clue and most of all, who killed Daya, forms the crux of the story.

Bobby in association with KS Ravikumar and Karunakaran neck deep in trouble with the gang of Aadukalam Naren are the real show runners. There are a lot of characters with almost equal importance on screen, given the complexity of the story. So there is very little room for everyone to emote an array of feelings. Hence it is mandatory that the cast be chosen just right so that the story remains intact. And director Badri's team is a band of well talented actors who live up to their characters.
Technicals:
Well conceived as a story, the film seems to have missed a bit of homework in its translation to screen. Given the nature of movie, the direction however was very good and it was edited very well too by KJ Venkatramanan, that is typical of a racy subject that keeps you involved in the movie. Sean Roldon has scored innovative music for the background, though the songs are not really interesting. Action sequences have been well conceived and translated too. Humour is on a high note in the movie, which is a welcome relief in a script with such intense story.
The good ones...:
Story is definitely a plus. Once the ODI or T20 cricket fever is over, people seem to easily forget the mega plans of gambling. But this story opens our eyes on what might really be going on in the bookie circuit. It is a well researched story in all. Sean's music is always known to be innovative and it has helped a great deal in breaking the stereotypical background score. Bobby's avatar as cop is stylish and suave and his quirky ideologies are humorous. The concept of multilayered story weaved on a base of mystery, with all characters interlinked, is interesting in itself. Editing is funky at times and very innovative, hand in hand with Dwarakanath's camera.
Could have been better...:
Time management seems to have gone for a toss. There are a couple of songs, one which is really intelligently shot, but there is too much of it, rendering it unnecessary. Further, there is no need for songs, except maybe only the one in climax, but they still are very much in the movie. The calibre that Sean carried in BGM seems music in music, which is disappointment. Given the subject handled in the movie, and the title itself being inspired by a song from one such movie of similar concept which was a megahit, a great length of reel could have been saved by sparing details of cricket betting which we already know. These sequences, and also the not-so-comic yet super long sequences, together make the movie seem like a drag, while it is actually a very crisp edit. And one of the greatest disappointments is that though the film talks every alternate dialogue on betting, there is no betting actually shown in the film. Plus, there is only very little cricket.
When many strive to earn by hardwork, there remain a few that rely on easy money. Taking this as the thread and explaining it on probably the most appealing explanation to am Indian - cricket, 'Aadama Jaichomada' is an intelligently conceived story. Certain aspects and dialogues also provide insight into the bookies world and how it is done, and even why it is done. In all, provided you head with a clear head and absolutely no expectations, 'Aadama Jaichomada' promises packed two hours of good humour on the crime in cricket.

Film: Amara Kaaviyam
Starring: Sathya, Mia George
Director: Jeevan Shankar
Producer: Arya
Banner: The Show People
Music: Ghibran
Story:
Amara Kaaviyam is the story of two lovers at their pre-Internet age. Jeeva [Sathya] and Karthika [Mia George] are school-going youngsters. For the first time Jeeva collects all his strengths to talk to Karthika just to tell her that his friend is loving her. Finally it ends when Karthika expresses her feelings for Jeeva. Skip for a while and you find the lead pair at the primes of their teens. The pleasures and pains of the tamed love is all about the film.
Sathya has suited the role of Jeeva looks wise. He is stiff and has to get much better to make a career as an actor both in facial expressions and body language.
Mia George has given a laudable performance. The actress from Gods own country will be welcomed with open arms. Coming to Amara Kaaviyam she looks double the age of Sathya on-screen.
Ananth Nag, Thambi Ramaiah and other supporting actors have done their roles well.
Technical Analysis:
Jeeva Shankar has made a good mark with his directorial debut Naan, but proved he is an ace cinematographer to filmmaker with Amara Kaaviyam.
The film has beautiful and never seen before frames of Ooty, albeit a best narration is important for film's success. Art direction needs a special mention. The after 80's are awfully erected and well canned too.
M Ghibran have score mesmerizing songs, yet a better picturization could have made them look worthy. His background scores are flawless and riveting.
Analysis:
Amara Kaaviyam is totally an amateurish love story, which was reported to have been an amazing love story just by comparing to films like Kaadhal Kondein and 7G Raninbow Colony.
Jeeva Sankar has failed to report all the reasons behind the frames. In short, he showed us that Karthika expresses her feeling for Jeeva and not his friend, but fails to answer why. There are many such scenes in Amara Kaaviyam that are left unanswered.
Even then, Jeeva is hooked to his genre and story line from the first frame and never compromise for unnecessary comedy in the movie.
Final Verdict: A nonclassical Kaaviyam...

Film: Irumbu Kuthirai
Starring: Atharvaa, Priya Anand, Raai Laxmi
Director: Yuvaraj Bose
Producer: Kalpathi Aghoram
Banner: AGS Entertainment
Music: GV Prakash Kumar

Story:
Irumbu Kuthirai is the story of Pondicherry based youngster Prithvi [Atharvaa] a part-time pizza delivery boy. Like all other youngsters, Prithvi falls in love with Samyuktha [Priya Anand] and a romantic journey follows until he bought a new second-hand bike by force. Consecutively, Samyuktha get kidnapped by a bikers gang lead by Johnny Tri Nyugen. Why was Samyuktha kidnapped? How Prithvi unfolds the truth behind her abduct, forms the crux of Irumbu Kuthirai.
Performances:
Atharvaa looks handsome and his dashing personality could have elevated more in the form of heroism in the movie. He has done his parts well as a trying to prove his mettle in life.
Priya Anand is eye-candy. Her chemistry with Atharvaa is good and nothing new. Priya Anand costumes need a special mention.
Devadarsshini is a perfect choice and delivered a lively performance as Atharvaa’s mother in Irumbu Kuthirai.
Jhonny Tri Nyugen was warmly welcomed by audiences. He was given utmost scope for performance and has apparently handled the lead villain role with ease.
Among others Jegan and Raai Lakshmi are candid as Atharvaa’s friends. Lakshmi’s non-sinking dubbing played a spoil sport.

Technical Analysis:
Yuvaraj Bose’s debut is not so remarkable. The director has to focus on the narration and screenplay. He has to be appreciated for bringing on board such talented stars who have perfectly suit the bill.
G.V.Prakash Kumar's background is appealing, especially in the biking sequences. All the songs appear like speed breakers testing audiences patience. Despite all odds, 'Penne Penne' and 'Ange Ippo Enne Seigiraai' make an impression.
Gurudev takes the credits for grandeur visuals of Irumbu Kuthirai. Cinematography is picturesque in the bike sequences, which were shot in foreign locales but forced to be believed as Pondy.
TS Suresh’s editing is okay, as the movie is locked to just 2 hrs 3 mins.
Analysis:
Yuvaraj takes the credits of introducing a film on bike racing in Tamil cinema for the first time. Thumps up for the Script, but the direction needed much more concentration. Irumbu Kuthirai has a humdrum screenplay with lethargic pace, otherwise of which could have made the film interesting.
First half of Irumbu Kuthirai has nothing to offer much rather than usual love story that falls flat. But the director has come up with interesting pre-interval block, followed by bike racing and action stunt in the second half that finally ends with a noteworthy climax.
Final Verdict: Dreary ride on a festering bike…

Here we go with quick Anjaan songs Review...
Song 01:Bang Bang Bang
Lyrics: Madhan Karky
Singers: KG Ranjith
Rating: 3/5
Yuvan has given a beautiful start to Suriya's Anjaan music album with his signature electric guitar scores. 'Bang Bang Bang' is certainly the best introduction song for a gangster flick, an electrifying intro for Suriya. Madhan Karky has to be lauded for penning reckoning lyrics and KG Ranjith has given his best for the song.
Song 02: Oru Kan Jaadai
Lyrics: Viveka
Singers: Benny Dayal, Shweta Pandit
Rating: 3/5
Oru Kan Jaadai is a soft love track with a rocking background. Yuvan seems to have decided to compose all the Anjaan songs using electric guitar and hard rock music tunes. Benny Dayal has pleasantly presented the song, while Shweta Pandit was just utilized to sing 'Na na na na' interlude. Viveka has come up with awesome lyrics 'Thodarum potta kadhayai pola indha maalai mudigiradhey'.
Song 03: Ek Do Theen
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar
Singers: Suriya, Andrea Jeremiah
Rating: 2.75/5
Suriya's presence will surely leave an impression. The song receives more attention from listeners than otherwise it would have got. Andrea Jeremiah takes the center stage and the duo have rendered it with utmost confidence. There couldn't me more impressive launch for Suriya as playback singer. Na. Muthukumar is at his best. Unlike earlier sound tracks, Yuvan has come up with celebration music using maththalam, trumpets and nadhaswaram.
Song 04: Kaadhal Aasai
Lyrics: Kabilan
Singers: Yuvan Shankar Raja, Sooraj Santosh
Rating: 2.75/5
Yuvan Shankar Raja has tried his best to deliver a romantic number in quwali style. Though he couldn't make an impact with his rendition in 'Kaashal Aasai', it surely calls for repeat listening. The song is a refreshing slow paced track with fantastic lyrics by Kabilan, which leaves you in a different world.
Song 05: Siripu En
Lyrics: Viveka
Singers: MM Manasi
Rating: 3/5
Siripu En is a perfect special song. Yuvan Shankar Raja has aptly composed the song with middle eastern style of tunes. Manasi's seducive vocals have perfectly suited the song's theme. Viveka has come up with naughty lyrics. Altogether 'Siripu En' is an instant hit and Chitrangadha Singh's appearance in the film is sure to heat up the audiences.
Final Verdict: One more in Yuvan template with special effect by Suriya...

Banner: Five Star Films
Music: Santhosh Narayanan

Story:
Jigarthanda is the story of an aspiring young director, Karthi Subramaniam [Siddharth]. Karthi sets the stage to make a rustic gangster film in Madurai backdrop, apparently shifts his base along with his friend Oorni [Karuna Karan]. Before he start working on his ideas to pen the gangster script, the duo performs a case study on the ferocious local goon Sethu [Simhaa]. What happens next is something to watch out on big screens.
Performances:
Siddharth will not disappoint you. He does his role with ease. Both the looks, whether it may be innocent side or his thrashing attitude, gelled well wtih the script.
Lakshmi Menon did justice to her small role.
Simhaa steals the show. He befits the role as a mean guy with rugged look and hair style. He comes as a bang underplaying other artists in few scenes. His evil laughs are a treat to watch and brings few chuckles on your face.
Karunakaran is at his usual best, a perfect comedian on board. Piraisudan, Soundar Raja and other cameos are interestingly placed.

Technical Analysis:
Karthik Subbaraj takes the credits for all that belonging to Jigarthanda. Script plays the lead role in the movie. The director scores for perfect screenplay, choice of cast and crew and what not.
Santosh Narayanan proved his hands on composing music. The new guy has provided a ravishing background score that gel well with all the frames.
Watch Jigarthanda for Gavemic U Ary's camera works. The man who proved his mettle in Dhanush's Mariyaan, shot all the frames to excellent in Jigarthanda.
Vivek Harshan's editing is okay according to story line. It could be crisp, especially in the second half.
Analysis:
Jigarthanda is an accertion of divergent script, classy perfomances, beautiful screenply and reassuring background scores. The movie is shot to excellence with timely comedy and twists that keeps you hooked to the screens.
Best part of Jigarthanda is it doesn't bank on an individual and has equal importance to all the characters in the film. Firstly, never leave after watching the first half of Jigarthanda, second half offers you much more twists.
Jigarthanda is an intense experimental film on making a movie. This film sleeves you the new shades of the artists in the later part to what you have seen in the first half.
Final Verdict: A perfect Film that is as tasty as Jigarthanda...

Technical Analysis:
Successful directorial debut for DOP Velraj. He takes the credits for bringing back Dhanush to his winning phase and giving him a perfect break for his Silver Jubilee in Kollywood. Punch dialogues and performances take the lead in VIP, while predictable narration plays the spoil sport.
Anirudh Ravichander provided award winning music for Velai Illa Pattathari. It will be a special one in his career.
Technically, movie is high. Cinematography at its best and editing is crisp [2hrs 25mins running time].
Analysis:
Story and performance vise, VIP scores good. Velraj has to be appreciated for his choice of cast and crew for Velai Illa Pattathari, true thespians on board. The director should have concentrated more on the narration.
Comparatively, the second half of the movie appears bit low as the first half is technically and commercially laudable.
A true entertainer in Dhanush is back with a bang after Raanjhana and Mariyaan. Watch VIP for flawless act by Dhanush, Anirudh's music and dialogues with inevitable story line.

Film: Ramanujan
Starring: Abhinay Vaddi, Suhasini, Kevin McGowan, Bhama
Director: Gnana Rajasekaran
Producer: Srivatsan Nadathur, Sushant Desai
Banner: Camphor Cinema Production
Music: Ramesh Vinayakam

The story of "Ramanujan" can be found in almost every Indian household. It's not the story of a genius, but one about how we treat a genius, how we want to change a genius into an ordinary man, how we expect a genius to be jack of all trades; master of none, how we want to prove that a genius is equivalent to being crazy and how we fail to celebrate a genius.
That Ramanujan is a mathematics wizard is a known fact, but did you know that he struggled to earn two square meals a day for many years in his life because he couldn't earn a suitable job.
But the problem was not with a suitable job, it was with those people who failed to understand him, his unmatchable intellect and talent.
The problem started from his family. All that his father wanted from Ramanujan was a college degree, a secure job that will relieve him off the responsibilities of a breadwinner for the family.
Not surprising. Because in the country, it's often noticed that once a person turns 60, he wants to retire. Ramanujan's father was no different. He least cared about his son's outstanding talent with the numbers.
In the high school, Ramanujan was denied scholarship. He was told that the management is happy with mediocre students in all subjects, instead of a genius in one. He faces similar reaction from mostly everybody around him, except a few who truly treat Ramanujan as a genius.
These aforementioned moments from the initial years of Srinivasa Ramanujan make up for an inspiring story and provided if one knew how to package them.
National award-winning filmmaker Gnana Rajasekaran certainly knows the art and succeeds narrating an inspiring tale, but his work doesn't resonate deep within.
This is so because the director merely recreates several important episodes from Ramanujan's life - from his school-going days to the minutes leading up to his death at 32 - on the screen while ignoring the need to build a screenplay to keep the viewers hooked.
One tragic episode after another makes viewers feels sorry and miserable for Ramanujan.
The highlight of the film is that it has a talented debutant playing Ramanujan to the hilt. You could see Ramanujan in Abhinay, literally, and his portrayal of the genius is nearly flawless.
Suhasini Maniratnam as his over-protective mother, which she pulls off with aplomb, fittingly supports him. You can find shades of grey in Suhasini's role and some sarcasm too, but she's the way she is for a reason and when that's finally revealed, you empathize for her.
Other notable performances come from Nizhagal Ravi and Y.Gee Mahendran.
While efforts are taken to portray Ramanujan as a genius, who is rejected by the society, ther's also a mention that he hallucinates regularly..
In an important scene, in Cambridge University, students of Professor Hardy, ask him why he helps Ramanujan who believes that god gives answers to his mathematical questions to him. To which, Hardy replies that it's that belief that has kept the genius in him alive and therefore he doesn't want to disturb it.
It's a brilliant scene because beliefs are what we made of, and when that's broken we become hollow inside.
Of the few things to like about "Ramanujan", Ramesh Vinayakam's music is life affirming. It is in sync with the era in which the film is set, oscillating between classical music and tunes of strings.
A refreshing bhajan by Vani Jayaram in the beginning is one of the best tracks of the album.
With tighter editing, "Ramanujan" would've been engaging despite its sluggish narrative.

Here the story takes a turn when one of his grand daughters Tamilselvi [Sara Arjun] who is fond of Paapa, hides the rooster at a secret place. Watch Saivam in theaters for the rest...
Performances:
More or less, Saivam is a performance driven film with a simple unique story and loads of love. It is impossible to even imagine someone else in the roles of Tamilselvi, Kathiresan and Senthil, performed by Baby Sara Arjun, Nassar and Baasha with such an ease that audiences will easily connect with.
Technical Analysis:
Director Vijay scores full marks for his story, screenplay, characterization and all that is related to Saivam. He has not routed back from connecting every small character in his film and has to be appreciated for bringing out such a simple tale with a fast paced narration.
GV Prakash Kumar's music and Nirav Shah's camera have supported the AL Vijay's thoughtful take on vegetarianism. Scenes where Sara speaks English being a village girl and the love track between Baasha and Twara are well shot. Interval and climax portions add enough liveliness to the movie. GV's special track that comes along Sara's Dubai cousin grabs your attention.
No comments for Anthony's editing as the movie runs at a good pace with lively characters and just 2 hours running time.
Saivam is a refreshing film among the reign of Tamil films either Comedy driven or serious thrillers that coming our way. AL Vijay has once again proved that he looks deep into his characters and will present his story through their vision.
Saivam has lot of feel good factors like the very beginning and end of the movie that starts and ends with blue sky but with different perception. Sara’s Thopukarnam that is indeed followed by whole family in the climax justifies the co-existing family habits. Similarly all the scenes of rooster searching are well executed.
Watch Saivam for a heartwarming movie that leaves you with refreshing brains and smiles once you are out of the room...
Final Verdict: Must watch; A Simple but elegant movie...

Film: Vadacurry
Starring: Jai, Swathi, Sunny Leone
Director: Saravana Rajan
Producer: Dayanidhi Azhagiri
Banner: Meeka Entertainment
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Story:
Vadacurry is the story of a typical Chennai guy Satish [Jai] who faces trouble with his ordinary mobile phone and purchases a korean mobile once he gets a job as a medical representative. But his new phone increases his problems instead of decreasing. One day, Satish finds an iphone in a Tea stall, which brings him luck in the form of girl friend [Swathi] and huge respect from colleagues and friends. There comes a day comes when Satish opts to return back the iphone to its original owner, after he saw an honest yet poor auto driver who handed over 20 sovereign gold to his passenger. In the process, Satish comes across a drug scam in medical industry. What happens next forms the crux of Vada Curry...
Performances:
Jai is at his usual best. He has performed the role of a confused young boy to perfection. His dance skills and timing are okay.
Swathi has done her parts well. Could have concentrated more on her looks as she looks dull in parts.
Sunny Leone has set the fire on screen. She has got a huge reception from the audiences. Definitely a big plus for the movie.
RJ Balaji's role is good. He brings few chuckles on viewers face whenever he is present on-screen.
Cameos by Venkat Prabhu, Premgi are impressive and others have given relatively adequate performances.
Technical Analysis:
Debutante Saravana Rajan being a Venkat Prabhu assistant resembles his mentors style in almost all the frames of the movie. He get the credits of making a perfect commercial entertainer.
Newbies Mervin Solomon and Vivek Siva have already proved their mettle with Vada Curry audio album. Background scores are no way lesser, takes the movie to a step higher.
Praveen KL's editing is brilliant. With only 2 hrs and 2 mins running time, Vada Curry team has come up with only needed things without wasting time on unnecessary inclusions.
Vada Curry is a clean and complete entertainer with ingredients like love, entertainment, family, friends, action elements and what not. But the movie falls flat at the interval bang and climax fight, which are the to be concentrated parts of the movie.
Coming to the pace, though the new filmmaker has taken ample time to settle down his characters; he included a beautiful love track between lead pair along with Sunny Leone's special number during the first half. Second half travels at a good pace and interesting elements.
On an average, Vada Curry has a good taste with amiss outlook.
Final Verdict: A Winning dish for Jai...
Film: Naan Than Bala
Starring: Vivek, Swetha, Nassar
Director: Kannan
Producer: JA Lawrence
Banner: SSS Entertainments
Music: Vidya Saagar
A highly-anticipated film can turn out to be a dud and the most unexpected low-budget movie can rake in the moolah. Vivekh-starrer "Naan Than Bala", which dares to explore an uncharted territory, faces a similar fate at the box office as it doesn't feature all the necessary elements to please the entertainment deprived audiences of Tamil cinema.
Stepping out of his comfort zone as a comedian, Vivekh dons a very serious role of that of a temple priest in the film.
When Poochi, a man Bala has never met in his life, comes forth to help him free his aged father from jail for a crime he never committed, he decides to spend the rest of his life in his service. Bala believes Poochi is the reincarnation of god and it is his duty to serve him till his last breath.
But Poochi is a paid assassin, one who has murdered many for a price and helped Bala free his father from the money he received for killing someone. Bala confronts Poochi and convinces him to surrender to police by turning approver and turn against his boss.
When most comedians are turning heroes to cash in on their popularity, Vivekh attempts to inspire his fans with his earnest effort. With utmost sincerity and dedication, he transforms into a priest, recites shlokas in impeccable Sanskrit and still has his sense of humour intact and uses it occasionally in the film.
We see the best of Vivekh in "Naan Than Bala" that we haven't witnessed in a very long time, not even in his most successful comic roles. He makes us root for the actor who has been concealed under the comedian in him for ages.
The problem is not with Vivekh's decision to don a serious role, but the film's treatment of the subject at hand. Some of the important dialogues are not in sync with the present era, while the melodrama reminds us of television serials as it makes you sympathetic but fails to strike an emotional chord deep within. The use of Sanskrit verses more often in the film is also a turn off because audiences seldom appreciate its intent. Also, the reference to the tale from Mahabharat comes too late when it should have ideally been used to develop the film's story from the beginning.
Despite Vivekh's noteworthy performance, the movie suffers overall because of its sluggish narrative and mediocre performances by the rest of the cast. No matter how hard Vivekh tried to shoulder the film singlehandedly, it fails to keep us hooked when other actors take the center stage and perform poorly.
Shoddy writing and direction makes "Naan Than Bala" a boring film despite good intention.

Film: Manja Pai
Starring: Vimal,Lakshmi Menon,Rajkiran
Director: Naveen Raghavan
Producer: N. Subash Chandrabose,A. Sargunam
Banner: Thirupathi Brothers
Music: N. R. Raghunanthan
Story:
Manjapai is the story of a Grandpa Venkatasamy [Raj Kiran] who comes to Chennai to stay along with his beloved Grandson Tamil [Vimal], an IT Professional living in a posh apartment in the city. Being an old man from village, Venkatasamy's behavior is quite different towards neighbors. This causes huge embarrassment to Tamil and slowly he tries to change Venkatsamy's dressing style and way of behavior. As days passes, people understands Venkatsamy's honesty and bigheartedness. In the mean time, there is a small love track between Tamil and Karthika Menon [Lakshmi Menon], an Ophthalmologist. Watch Manjapai for the performances...
Performance:
Vimal has done his parts well, but couldn't live the role as a lovable grand child.
Raj Kiran is the heart and soul of Manja Pai. It is the Venkatasamy all over the film and his witty act in the role brought the house down, leaving audiences in tears at places.
Lakshmi Menon is a big lay down to the film. She is just not apt for the characterization, as a City girl. Pratap Pothen is fun to watch on-screen.
Technical Analysis:
Debutante director Naveen Raghavan has come up with a descent subject. Manjapai's biggest strength is emotional scenes, but Naveen failed in writing an engaging screenplay and gripping narration.
NR Raghunanthan's songs are okay, so as the background score that is beautifully executed at parts. Masani's cinematography is good. Especially, 'Ayyo Ayyo – Thatha' song is visually excellent. Deva's editing is acceptable.
Manja Pai means a yellow bag that was been in use some years ago when people are unaware of Plastic covers. Director seems to have planned to show the importance of understanding persons and mutual relations, which he feels lagging in cities today.
The movie lacks continuity and pace in the initial hour and the audiences couldn't connect with the lead pair. It is after the Raj Kiran's entrance viewers travel along with him. His character plays the main role and Vimal has supported him well.
Final Verdict: Emotional – Laugh Riot; lags perfection in Execution...
