Vir Das, stand-up comedian turned actor, has already been successful in proving his acting abilities to the world through films such as ‘Delhi Belly’ and ‘Go Goa Gone’. He is now back with yet another comic caper in the form of ‘Sooper Se Ooper’. Directed by Shekhar Ghosh, the movie also stars Gulshan Grover, Kirti Kulhari and Deepak Dobriyal in other lead roles. ‘Sooper Se Ooper’ has released today and let’s see what it has in store for the audiences.
Story :
The story of ‘Sooper Se Ooper’ revolves around two brothers Ranvir (Vir Das) and Kukreja (Deepak Dobriyal). Soon enough, Ranvir goes through some tough financial situations and selling off the ancestral property is the only option left open for him. On the other hand, Kukreja also has his eye on the property. Since their mother has not nominated the property on either of their names, the only person who can solve Ranvir’s and Kukreja’s problem is Madho Singh Rathore (Gulshan Grover), their mama who lives in Rajasthan.
Ranvir decides to take on his brother and go to his ancestral village to seek his uncle’s help. The rest of ‘Sooper Se Ooper’ is about the obstacles that Ranvir faces in his journey to Rajasthan and whether he is successful in his mission.

Positive Points :‘Sooper Se Ooper’ is a film packed with a fresh concept that is far from your usual loud Bollywood humor. Vir Das who was last seen in ‘Go Goa Gone’ is an actor with an amazing comic timing and as expected, he has given a very good performance in this film as well.
Kirti Kulhari, who played Parminder in ‘Khichdi’ is pretty decent. Special mention goes to Gulshan Grover who steps out of his badman avatar and plays a comic character in this film. He is funny in every frame and manages to look convincing in his character. Yashpal Sharma who has a supporting role also gives out a powerful performance.

Negative Points :Director Shekhar Ghosh comes up with an interesting concept but fails in the execution. Though the movie is supposed to be a laugh riot, it fails to live up to this expectation.
The movie becomes predictable from the moment it starts and the audiences can easily predict about what it has to offer by the end. Even though the movie has been promoted as a comedy, it falls more in the genre of drama.
Technical Aspects :
The peppy music remains constant throughout the movie and does not end up as tedious at any point. Sonu Nigam and Bickram Ghosh come up with an amalgamation of rural and urban numbers.
Cinematography is commendable as the camera captures the Rajasthani backdrop beautifully. The screenplay is pretty decent while the editing could have been a little sharper which would have helped reduce the length of the film by a bit. The funny dialogues in the film are just about average.
Verdict :
Overall, ‘Sooper Se Ooper’ has some decent performances but some uninspiring direction and a weak storyline may put you off the film completely. You can safely ignore this flick this weekend.
