Story:
Maan Karate begins with a group of
friends including Ethir Neechal Sathish roaming in a forest in search of
a saint to get blessings. Fortune favours them in the form of a
newspaper, where it is written that a local guy named Peter [Siva
Karthikeyan] will win the upcoming boxing tournament and will gift the
offered cash prize to Satish and his friends.
On the other hand Peter is an artless
local guy with very little worldly exposure who tries to impress his
girlfriend Yazhini [Hansika] all the time and poses like a boxer to woo
her, as she is an ardent fan of sports. Destiny has bigger plans and
Peter had to register for the boxing tourney. What happens next forms
the story.
Watch Maan Karate to know, How Satish and friends meet Peter? Will they accept the reward won by Peter...
Performances:
Siva Karthikeyan is at
his regular best, his timing worked wonders on-screen. Siva has excelled
with his dancing barring emotions and his effort to step into the shoes
of a boxer.
Hansika has slimmed
down and looks gorgeous on-screen. She has perfectly done her role with
killer looks and beautiful expressions in songs.
After getting credits for his role in
Ivan Vera Mathiri, Vamsi Krishna has once agin proved his hands in
playing an antagonist role.
Among others, Sathish with his
one-liners, Aswathi and the actress who played Vamsi's wife needs a
special mention. Soori’s cameo did not chuckle among audiences while
special appearance by Anirudh Ravichander and AR Murugadoss in 'Open The
Tasmac' song are good.
Technical Analysis:
Debutante Thirukumaran have to work more
on the screenplay, especially the second half is absolutely predictable
in every frame and the climax is an exception.
AR Murugadoss's script is crystal clear
and is a package of entertainment regarded with commercial elements and
emotions, execution makes all the difference.
Anirudh Ravichander has added one more
hit album to his list but the same is not felt with Maan Karate
background scores. ‘Maanja’ and ‘Un Vizhigalil’ songs are speed
breakers.
Sukumar's cinematography is lively and
brilliant in the initial few minutes as he transports us right into the
proceedings on screen. His usage of light is amazing in song visuals and
costumes of the lead pair needs a special mention here.
A. Sreekar Prasad's editing is okay, but could have trimmed few scenes in the second half to make it more crisper.
P. Madan has keenly produced Maan Karate
with timely promotions, but the film couldn't live up to the much hyped
expectations because of forced song placement and lewd comic scenes.
Analysis:
Thirukumaran has perfectly handled the
movie half way through, but he couldn't take audiences along in the
scenes where a normal go-happy guy Peter transforms into Boxer and
climax is comical. Siva Karthikeyan, Hansika, Anirudh and
cinematographer Sukumar are the highlights of Maan Karate.
Final Verdict: Watchable Summer entertainer...
